Class A Boys

100 Meter Dash
St. Marys' Josh Roush got out very well and was able to hold off the close of Doddridge's Leo Stinespring, who did not get out well. It was a photo finish, and Roush got the win by 0.008, 8 one thousandths of a second with both athletes recording an 11.36. Gilmer's Ean Hamric also closed well in the last 40 to take the 3rd spot in 11.47. Buffalo's Bradley Harris was 4th in 11.65. The last four spots were decided by just 0.04 seconds. It was Wheeling Central's Cooper Blair taking 5th in 11.74, and Clay-Battelle's Zachary Hall got the 6th spot by less than a hundredth of a second.
RunWV's Current Score: 6 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
St. Marys' Josh Roush had a slight lead coming out of the turn, but Doddridge's Leo Stinespring pulled into the lead at about 110 meters and powered away from the field to win by over 0.4 seconds with a 22.62. Roush easily held the 2nd spot in 23.03. Buffalo's Bradley Harris held the 3rd spot in 23.37, just holding off the late charge of Gilmer's Ean Hamric who was coming hard that last 40 meters and finished 4th in 23.41. Wheeling Central's Cooper Blair was a close 5th in 23.44. Trinity Christian's Levi Teets was 6th in 23.87.
RunWV's Current Score: 12 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
Ritchie's Gus Morrison controlled the race from the beginning and sped to the win by over a second in 51.06. Gilmer's Ean Hamric closed well in the last 100 to move into 2nd in 52.08. Heat 1 saw a great race between Wahama's Gavin Hieronymus and Richwood's Caleb Williams. Williams was way out front, and Hieronymus had the big finish to just nip Williams at the line with both recording times of 52.80. That was good enough to give them 3rd and 4th overall, respectively. Pocahontas' Max Oganian held off the late surge of Ravenswood's Wyatt Milhoan to take 5th, 52.89 to 52.90.
RunWV's Current Score: 16 of 18.

800 Meter Run
Greenbrier West's Matthew Thomas went out very quickly, and still held a gap at the 400 meter mark as he came through at 1:00. There was a pack trailing him at 1:02. I think the order of that pack was Buffalo's Nick Pitchford, Ritchie's Alex Owens, Wheeling Central's Aidan Scott, Doddridge's Trent Gola, Wood County Christian's Michael Cline and Magnolia's Brady Renner. Scott started moving at about 470 meters and then just about tripped over Pitchford as he cut in. He closed up on Thomas on the backstretch and moved into the lead at about 570 meters. Pitchford followed and moved into 2nd at about 640. Scott pulled away to win by over 1.5 seconds with a 2:03.26. Pitchford was able to hold 2nd in 2:04.92, fending off a comeback attempt by Thomas, who was 3rd in 2:05.17. Cline came up to 4th in 2:06.32. Sherman's Andrea Skeens closed well to move into 5th in 2:06.99, and Renner took the final spot in 2:08.78.
RunWV's Current Score: 20 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
Wood County Christian's Michael Cline led the pack through lap 1 with at least 6 guys coming through at 1:08. It looked like Buffalo's Nick Pitchford was in 2nd, Wahama's Josiah Lloyd was in 3rd, Doddridge's Trent Gola was in 4th, Wheeling Central's Aidan Scott was in 5th, and Richwood's Trey Stanley was in 6th. I'm not 100% sure about a couple of those. There was some action late in the 2nd lap as there was some crowding and elbowing and weaving and cutting off going on at the front. But at the end of lap 2, Gola had avoided the mess and slipped into the lead at 2:20. That time was matched by Pitchford in 2nd and Cline in 3rd. Paw Paw's Donovan Tanouye had moved into 4th at 2:21. Scott was in 5th with the same time, and Williamstown's Chase Trembly had moved into 6th at 2:22. Things settled down on lap 3 with Pitchford taking the lead into the final lap at 3:33. Scott had moved into 2nd with the same time. Gola was in 3rd at 3:34 with Cline in 4th and Trembly up to 5th with the same time. I think it was Stanley now in 6th at 3:37. On the final lap, Scott made his move with about 200 meters to go and put the field down to win by nearly 2 seconds in 4:34.42. Cline moved up, battled near Pitchford, Pitchford pulled back away a little, and then Cline had one more push in the last 50 to move into the 2nd spot in 4:36.32. Pitchford held the 3rd spot at 4:36.86. Gola held the 4th position at 4:41.48, just ahead of Trembly's 4:42.16. Sherman's Andrea Skeens ran a strong final lap to move into the 6th spot in 4:46.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 25 of 30.

3200 Meter Run
Wheeling Central's Aidan Scott led the field through lap 1 in 1:12. The field was very bunched. Also at 1:12 were Wood County Christian's Michael Cline, Sherman's Andrea Skeens, Buffalo's Patrick Reilly, and Richwood's Trey Stanley. I think it was Magnolia's Landen Davis in 6th at 1:13. The field remained very tight through two laps. Scott remained in the lead at 2:30 with Cline matching that in 2nd. Doddridge's Trent Gola had moved into 3rd at 2:31 with Reilly, Stanley, and Skeens matching that time in 4th through 7th, respectively. The grouping continued through lap 3 with Scott still in front at 3:48. Reilly was up to 2nd at 3:49 with that time matched by Cline, Gola, Williamstown's Chase Trembly and Stanley in 3rd through 6th, respectively. There was still a big pack at the half-way point with Reilly moving into the lead at 5:09. The top 6 were all at 5:09 with Stanley up to 2nd, Gola in 3rd, Cline in 4th, Scott in 5th, and Trembly in 6th. Right behind them were Williamstown's Zach Cannon and Skeens at 5:10. Reilly made a move and generated a gap on lap five, but it had started to close by the end of the lap, but he still led at 6:27 with Gola in 2nd at 6:28, Stanley in 3rd, Trembly in 4th, Cline in 5th, and Scott in 6th...all at 6:28. Lap 6 saw the field reel Reilly in, and Trembly made a move to the front and generated a gap. He lead through the end of 6 at 7:46 with Cline back up to 2nd in 7:47 with Gola in 3rd, Reilly in 4th, and Scott in 5th, also at 7:47. Cannon was up to 6th at 7:48 with Stanley also at 7:48 in 7th. At the end of 7, the pack had brought Trembly back in, and Cline had moved to the front at 9:02. Trembly was still in 2nd at 9:03 with Scott matching that in 3rd. Gola was in 4th at 9:05 with Reilly in 5th at 9:07 and Stanley in 6th at 9:08. Cannon and Skeens were still in contention at 9:09 and 9:11, respectively. Scott made his big move on the final lap and pulled away from the field to win it in 10:05.80. Cline easily held the 2nd spot in 10:09.44. Trembly held the 3rd spot in 10:13.37. Gola remained 4th in 10:16.25. Stanley moved up to 5th in 10:21.28 with Reilly holding onto the 6th spot in 10:22.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 30 of 36.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Ritchie's Marlon Moore got out quickly and extended his lead over the first few hurdles. St. Marys' Braden Hashman started to close up, and it was going to be a close race to the finish, but Moore caught #8 with his trail leg and clubbed #9 with his lead leg. Hashman easily got by for the win. Moore held the 2nd spot. Wood County Christian's Ben Weekley was solidly 3rd. Paden City's Shane Anderson overcame an early clubbing to take 4th. Buffalo's Gunner Fertig was 5th, and Webster's Dakota McMillion was 6th. This one had some controversy as the camera recorded no pictures and no times. They called all the coaches down, and if the coaches could not agree on placement, they would have to re-run the race at some point. The first 4 were obvious, as was 8th. Someone had video that the coaches were able to review, and they did come to agreement. So, there are no official times. Video replay and hand-times convert to Hashman at 15.14, Moore at 15.34, Weekley at 16.24, Anderson at 16.44, Fertig at 16.94, McMillion at 17.04.
RunWV's Current Score: 34 of 42.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Ritchie's Gus Morrison dominated the event, leading from the gun and won it by over 1.5 seconds with a 39.67. That gives him the 9th Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. St. Marys' Braden Hashman broke away from a close race to easily take 2nd in 41.33. Doddridge's Seth Richards held the 3rd spot in 42.74. Wood County Christian's Ben Weekley narrowly held onto the 4th position in 43.10 with Buffalo's Bradley Harris 5th in 43.17. Webster's Dakota McMillion controlled the 1st Heat and rode that to a 6th place finish in 43.92.
RunWV's Current Score: 38 of 48.

4x100 Meter Relay
Wheeling Central's group of Riley Watkins, Braden McWreath, Lorenzo Ferrera, and Cooper Blair easily outdistanced the field in taking the win in 44.74. Doddridge easily moved into 2nd on the final leg, to finish in 45.53. Ritchie scored 3rd in 46.12. Moorefield nipped Clay-Battelle for 4th with both recording times of 46.31. Tygarts Valley took the final spot in 46.99.
RunWV's Current Score: 43 of 54.

4x200 Meter Relay
Wheeling Central's unit of Riley Watkins, Braden McWreath, Lorenzo Ferrera, and Cooper Blair dominated the field to win by over 2 seconds in 1:32.32. Ritchie surprised me by adding Gus Morrison to this unit (I had guessed 4x400), and they used that to move from 4th to 2nd on his anchor leg, finishing in 1:34.49. St. Marys was a close 3rd in 1:34.69. Doddridge held the 4th spot in 1:35.24. Buffalo was an easy 5th in 1:35.87, scoring that by dominating Heat 1. Trinity Christian took the final spot in 1:37.46.
RunWV's Current Score: 48 of 60.

4x400 Meter Relay
The video was glitchy, so I don't have many times, and some of the placing are shaky as it always seems to pick the exhchanges to buffer and skip. After one leg, it appeared to be Wahama in 1st, followed by St. Marys in 2nd, Doddridge in 3rd, Trinity Christian in 4th, Ritchie in 5th, and Williamstown in 6th. Wahama continued to lead through the 2nd leg. It looked like Doddridge just got by St. Marys into 2nd with St. Marys in 3rd. Ritchie was in 4th, Trinity Christian in 5th, and Williamstown in 6th. Doddridge shot into the lead on the backstretch of leg 3, but Wahama and St. Marys came back by with Wahama leading through 3 legs in 2:44 with St. Marys at 2:45, and Doddridge in 3rd at 2:46. Trinity Christian was in 4th at 2:48 with Ritchie in 5th at 2:50. I think Williamstown was still in 6th. On the final leg, St. Marys moved into the lead, and Doddridge was hanging out in 3rd while Ritchie was closing on Trinity. With the team title on the line, all spots mattered. Heading into the event, Ritchie led Doddridge by 2. If Doddridge stayed 3rd and Ritchie got past Trinity, we would end in a tie. But in the last 150, Doddridge's Leo Stinespring went on a mission. He got by Wahama, and then powered through and got by St. Marys with less than 10 meters to go. Stinespring split 50.5 to give Doddridge the event win and the Team Title. The foursome of Talyn Snyder, Caleb Lloyd, Eli Galagar, and Leo Stinespring got the win in 3:37.13. St. Marys was 2nd in 3:37.16. Wahama held the 3rd spot in 3:39.90. Trinity Christian pulled back away for 4th in 4:42.54. Ritchie held onto 5th in 3:47.16. Wheeling Central slipped into 6th place from Heat 1 (where they held off a late charge by Ravenswood) in 3:48.30.
RunWV's Current Score: 53 of 66.

4x800 Meter Relay
Doddridge led the field through the first leg in 2:09. St. Marys was 2nd in 2:11. Charleston Catholic was in 3rd and Magnolia 4th, also in 2:11. Ritchie was in 5th at 2:12 with Buffalo in 6th at 2:14. Doddridge lost the lead quickly as they dropped the baton after the exchange. This allowed several teams by, and after two legs, it was Magnolia in the front at 4:22 with Charleston Catholic in 2nd at 4:23. St. Marys was in 3rd at 4:25 with Buffalo up to 4th in 4:28. Ravenswood was up to 5th in 4:29 with Williamstown in 6th at 4:31. After three legs, Magnolia had generated a gap, coming through in 6:37. Charleston Catholic remained in 2nd at 6:40 with St. Marys in 3rd at 6:41. Ravenswood was up to 4th at 6:43, and Buffalo in 5th at 6:45. I think Williamstown was in 6th. On the final leg, Magnolia was not challenged, and they repeated as champion with the group of Lucas Zombotti, Landen Davis, Jordan Davis, and Brady Renner getting the win in 8:44.73. St. Marys moved into 2nd in 8:49.71. Buffalo came up to 3rd in 8:53.23. Charleston Catholic held onto 4th in 8:56.61. Ravenswood took the 5th spot on 9:00.09. Ritchie moved into the final spot in 9:03.15.
RunWV's Current Score: 57 of 72.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Ritchie's unit of Dom Worstell, Ethan Haught, Jonah Hamilton, and Marlon Moore led the entire race and took the win by over a second in 1:01.39. Greenbrier West won a tight battle over Paden City for the 2nd spot with Greenbrier West recording a 1:02.65 and Paden City a 1:02.78. Doddridge was a solid 4th in 1:04.03. Magnolia dominated Heat 3 to take 5th in 1:04.85. Tygarts Valley was 6th in 1:06.97.
RunWV's Current Score: 62 of 78.

High Jump
James Monroe's Haiden Huffman and Webster's Peyton Amos both cleared 6'2. Huffman won the title on a jump-off with Amos settling for 2nd. Paden City's Shane Anderson was 3rd at 5'10. Moorefield's Dean Keplinger, Valley Wetzel's Isaiah Bassett, and Trinity Christian's Chase Livengood took 4th through 6th, respectively, with each clearing 5'8.
RunWV's Current Score: 66 of 84.

Pole Vault
Ritchie's Kodi Camp was the only vaulter to clear 12'6 in taking the win. The Doddridge trio of Kaden Smith, John Devinney, and Seth Richards each cleared 12'0 to take 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. Tyler Consolidated's Sage Landis was 5th and Ritchie's Ethan Haught was 6th with both at 11'6. This one had some drama. All three Doddridge guys cleared 11'6 on their 3rd attempt. Had they failed, Ritchie would have had 1st and 3rd, and Doddridge would have had 2 guys in a 5 way tie for 5th. But they got it, and then all three cleared 12'0 with two getting it on their first attempt. This was probably the single biggest event that moved the team title to Doddridge.
RunWV's Current Score: 71 of 90.

Long Jump
Ritchie's Gus Morrison went 22'6.50 on his 2nd jump and didn't even have to bother jumping in the finals as no one was close to him. That mark gave him a new Class A State Meet Record and the Best All-Time Class A State Meet Performance. James Monroe's Haiden Huffman went 20'10.75 on his first attempt and rode that to a 2nd place finish. Webster's Peyton Amos went 20'4.75 on his first attempt and carried that to 3rd place. Petersburg's Brindle Rowe went 19'10 for 4th. Magnolia's Austin Beverlin went 19'7.50 for 5th. Valley Wetzel's Triston Bates went 19'4 for 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 76 of 96.

Shot Put
Wahama's Rowen Gerlach took the win with a big 5th throw of 47'9. Paw Paw's Dalton Kasekamp sent one 46'10 on his final attempt to secure 2nd. Doddridge's Adam Burnside threw 45'3 for 3rd. Ritchie's Conner Shaffer threw 44'6.50 for 4th. Buffalo's Drew Clendenin threw 44'0'50 for 5th. Tyler Consolidated's Jaden Holmes threw 42'10 for 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 81 of 102.

Discus
Wahama's Rowen Gerlach held the lead after preliminaries, and no one was able to take it from him as he won the event with toss of 144'5. Richwood's Joshua Landreth threw 142'11 for 2nd. Sherman's Zack Carter had his first throw go 141'10 and didn't come close to that again, including 4 fouls, but one is all you need, and it was good for 3rd. Doddridge's Adam Burnside threw 139'10 on his final attempt to secure 4th. Paw Paw's Dalton Kasekamp took 5th with a 138'4. That's five guys throwing past last year's winner. Moorefield's Malachi Zirk took the final spot with a 136'8 toss.
RunWV's Current Score: 86 of 108.

The final score of 86 of 108 means that 79.6 % of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
